Subscriptions & purchases on Apple devices

You can create a Viaplay account and start a subscription directly in your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV*). You will then be charged through iTunes. All changes in the subscription like changing package or cancelling the subscription must be done via iTunes from the settings on your device.

*Purchasing a package is only available on Apple TV Generation 4 and newer.

Subscription through iPhone / iPad

You can get Viaplay directly on your iPhone/iPad by downloading the Viaplay app from the App Store.

  • New customer: choose Fáðu þér Viaplay, pick the package you wish to subscribe to and continue to Skráning. No payment method is needed since your subscription and billings will be handled through your Apple ID, if you don’t have a payment method on your Apple ID, you will be prompted to add one. After creating your account you’ll be able to log in to Viaplay on all our supported devices.
  • If you already have an existing account, start by logging into the Viaplay application. If you are not directed to the package page, where you can start a subscription, click Reikningur at the bottom right. Here you can choose a package and start watching our content. Keep in mind that when you start a subscription through iTunes, you’ll also be charged by iTunes and the subscription can only be managed through your Apple ID settings. However, if you have used a different payment method before, you can choose to continue with the same payment details and therefore also be able to manage your account directly through our website instead.

Packages you can choose from:

  • Viaplay (kvikmyndir og þáttaraðir) 
  • Viaplay Total (kvikmyndir og þáttaraðir & iþróttir) 

Please note that single purchases (rental & purchase movies and PPV events) are not included in our monthly subscriptions.

Your subscription is renewed monthly and you can cancel it at any time, read more below.

Subscription through Apple TV

You can join Viaplay directly through your Apple TV by downloading the Viaplay app from the App Store unless the app is not already pre-installed on your device.

  • New customer: choose Fáðu þér Viaplay, pick the package you wish to subscribe to and continue to Skráning. Cancel subscription/change package

Cancel subscription
To cancel your subscription through iTunes on your iPhone/iPad, you do the following:

  • Go to Settings on your iPad/iPhone and click on your Apple ID/name (at the top) > iTunes & App Store
  • Click “Apple ID: example@mail.com”, View Apple ID and log in.
  • Under Subscriptions, you can manage your subscriptions through iTunes and cancel your package. After completing the cancellation of your Viaplay package, you’ll be able to continue to use the service until your paid billing period is over.

Change package
In order to change package you must first cancel your current subscription according to the steps above. Once the package is cancelled you can choose to start another package. 

Rental and purchase movies

In addition to the wide range of available content included in the subscription, you also have the option to rent movies on your iPhone/iPad. Purchasable movies are not available on Apple’s devices, however, if you already have purchased movies on your account, you will find them under the Spila section.

You can find rental movies in the Discover section. Choose a movie you want to watch and confirm your purchase. The rental movie is available for 48h starting from the confirmation and can be watched on all our supported platforms. The rental movie is charged from the same payment method as your Viaplay subscription.

Note! Unless you have an active Viaplay subscription, you will not be able to find the rental section in your app. However, you can rent the movie through a web browser and then watch on any device afterwards. 

Voucher for a rental movie
If you have received a voucher code for a rental movie, you’ll need to redeem it through a web browser. It is not possible to redeem a code in the application.
