App and subtitle language settings
The Viaplay app and subtitles use the language of your subscription country. You can’t change the app language, but subtitle preferences follow your last chosen language when possible. Contact us if subtitles or commentary are missing or incorrect.
App and subtitle language
Your Viaplay app will always display in the language connected to your account’s country. For example, if your subscription is registered in Iceland, the app will be in Icelandic by default and subtitles will also appear in Icelandic where available. At the moment, it’s not possible to change this.
The default subtitle language is set based on the country of your subscription but follows your last chosen language where possible.
If you’re using Viaplay while travelling abroad, the interface and subtitles will still follow the language of your home country’s subscription.
Missing or incorrect subtitles
If subtitles are missing, displayed in the wrong language, or not working as expected, please contact our Customer Service so we can help you.
To assist you faster, include the following information:
- The title of the show, movie, or stream
- The season and episode number (for series)
- The timestamp where the issue occurs
- Make sure to describe your issue in detail.
Commentary language
Live commentary is usually provided in the language linked to your Viaplay account. We always aim to offer commentary in local languages, but this isn’t always possible. For example, if several events take place at the same time, some matches may use commentary in another language or be available only with arena sound.
In certain cases, Viaplay cannot control the commentary language. Some leagues, such as the Premier League, don’t allow or provide English commentary, which means the available language depends on our broadcast rights and regional access.
If multiple commentary languages are offered for an event, you can select your preferred option directly in the player.
