We are introducing Viaplay Household. This means, that your Viaplay account will be connected to your household through registration on a big screen. Your home network will function as a base, to which your 5 devices should be connected. You will still be able to use your devices when you’re not at home, but you will have to log into your Viaplay account on said devices at home, once a month, for them to remain registered to your home network. If you log into your account on a different TV in a different household, you will need to register this network as your household TV. The difference from our old setup is that your account will be based on your household TV, or your home network, to avoid a system where people from multiple households can share one account that is meant for one household.
Account sharing has been a bit of a grey zone during the rise of streaming. While technologies have developed and the market has evolved it has become evident that to keep providing content, services need to focus on the regulations for usage to households. If services can be shared freely it is self-evident, that the business model isn’t sustainable. Our services are intended to be shared amongst a household, which in the vast majority of instances is already the case. We are simply now implementing a technical system that enforces the intended usage, so most people won’t experience any difference to how they already use our platform.
