Rent & buy movies on Viaplay
Do you have a voucher for a rental movie? See here how you can use it.
You can rent or buy movies through the Leigja og kaupa-category on Viaplay. You don’t need a subscription to rent or buy a movie and the payment for the movie is billed directly from the payment method you have added to your account.
Most movies can be both rented or bought, though in some cases only one of the options is available.
You can set a purchase lock on your account to prevent unapproved purchases. Read more here.

The Leigja og kaupa-category is available on almost every supported device, you can find an overview here. Note that in order for you to see the Leigja og kaupa- category in the app on iPhone and iPad you need to have an active subscription. Read more about renting or buying movies on Apple-devices here.
Rent movies:
A rental movie is available on your account for 48 hours after the purchase and you can watch the movie as many times as you want during the rental period.
To rent a movie, go to the Leigja og kaupa-category, choose a movie you’d like to rent and choose the Leigja-option. After you have confirmed your purchase you can start watching the movie, and we will send you a receipt of the purchase to your registered email. The payment for the movie is billed immediately from your registered payment method.
Buy movies:
When you buy a movie, it will be available on your account for as long as the account exists. You don’t need to have a subscription to access the movies you have bought on your account.
To buy a movie, go to the Leigja og kaupa-category, choose a movie you’d like to buy and choose the Kaupa-option. After you have confirmed your purchase you can start watching the movie, and we will send you a receipt of the purchase to your registered email. The payment for the movie is billed immediately from your registered payment method.
Why aren’t all movies available as part of a subscription?
Whether a movie can be offered as part of a subscription depends on the rights that are available. When a new movie is released, it is usually first only available in the theaters. After that the movie can become available in the Leigja og kaupa-category, and after a while it can be possible to show the movie as part of a subscription.
