Cast Viaplay to Chromecast or Google TV

With Chromecast, Android TV, and Google TV, you can share playback of content from your mobile device, tablet, or computer to your TV.

How to play via Chromecast:
  1. Open the Viaplay app or Viaplay.is in Chrome.
  2. Sign in to your Viaplay account.
  3. Start playback of the content you want to watch.
  4. Select subtitle and language settings if you want something other than the default settings.
  5. Press the Chromecast icon and select the device you want to play on from the list.
Requirements

The TV that will play the content must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have Google TV or Android TV built in.
  • Have an external Google TV installed.
  • Have an external Chromecast installed.

Read more about our system requirements for these streaming devices here.

The device sharing the content can be one of the following:

  • Mobile Android and Apple devices.
  • Mac and Windows computers

If you are using a mobile device or tablet, you need to have the Viaplay app downloaded. If you are using a computer, we recommend using Chrome as your browser. If you are using a computer and browser, in addition to casting only the playback according to the instructions above, you can also cast the entire screen by clicking the three dots in the top-right corner and selecting Cast.

Both the device sharing the content and your Google TV, Chromecast, or smart TV must be connected to the same network.

Change audio language/subtitles

Follow these steps to change language settings if your device is already connected to Chromecast:

  1. Disconnect your device from Chromecast.
  2. Start playback of the content you want to watch on your device, if it is not already playing.
  3. Change the subtitle and language settings to your preferred options.
  4. Reconnect to Chromecast by pressing the Chromecast icon.
If the Chromecast icon is missing

Follow these steps if the Chromecast icon is missing during playback in the app or on Viaplay.is in a browser.

  1. Check that your devices are connected to the same network.
  2. If the devices are connected to the same network: close the Viaplay app or browser completely and open it again.
  3. If that does not work: try resetting your Chromecast/Google TV by holding down the button directly on the Chromecast or on the back of the Google TV console for approximately 25 seconds until you see an update window on your TV. This resets all internet settings and updates the device software.
  4. Reconnect your Chromecast/Google TV to the same wifi network as the device sharing the content through the Google Home app.
  5. Try playing through the Chromecast icon again.
